power

This is the previous workstation, this chapter describes the hardware and how to reinstall when needed.

system

You can use dmidecode for most of this info:

changetitle
sudo dmidecode

|-------------- |------------------------------------------ |Motherboard |ASRock B75 Pro3-M |Processor |Intel Core i7 3400 Hz |Memory |20 GB

heat problem

For now power mostly runs transmission and the VPN. But especially on hot days the fan goes wild and does not seem to cope with the cpu heat.

I installed the lm-sensors package to test it.

Adapter: ISA adapter

Core 2: +67.0°C (high = +85.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)
Core 3: +68.0°C (high = +85.0°C, crit = +105.0°C)

Only 4 cores, while cat /proc/cpuinfo lists 0-7. It seems this cpu only has 4 cores but 2 threads per core.

TODO: This run was done at 25 degrees, run this again when the fans rev up again.
